I am seeing the same error with gentoo-ppc, 2.6.15.5, and madwifi-ng svn.
madwifi old works perfectly, i.e. hal 0.9.14.9 works, hal 0.9.16.16 fails.
The card is a 5211. Thanks for any hint.
