It's again me, but this time not as 'anonymous' :-)
Good news...
Your patch applied cleanly to r1482 works wit hmy WPA2 network.
The problem was that something must changed from 1475 --> 1482 and since
we in Gentoo passed '--localstatedir=/var/run' parameter in order to have
it running, now NM was creating (or attempting) sockets in /var/run/run.
Changing the parameter '--localstatedir=/var' solved the issue and I have
again working NM.
As far as stability is concerned it needs some more testing, although I'm
not sure how much I'd be able to provide in a few remaining days before
travelling.
In any case, the patch is promising.
