 ad-hoc demo networks all have 00:00:00:00:00:00 bssid's which certainly
 doesn't help in avoiding unwanted associations.

 I've not yet had enough time to throughly examine the driver to see what
 the differences between ahdemo and ad-hoc are. My initial impression is
 that the HAL is put into the same mode (ad-hoc) but the driver just
 handles certain things (beacons, probes, etc) differently in the 802.11
 stack.

 Again, I'm not an expert in the rate algorithm, but it looks to me like
 the rate algorithm calculates a rate for each associated station. If
 you're using ath_rate_sample the input data is basically the number of
 packets that are sent successfully at each rate.
