We didn't do that sooner because we didn't have the tools before :) Some
weeks back I've modified our local Trac patches to allow hiding buttons
(for core functions of Trac, such as the ticket engine) without turning it
completely off or messing with permissions. And then there's the [http
://trac-hacks.org/wiki/NavAddPlugin NavAddPlugin ] that I recently wrote
(we use that to add the "Download" button to the navigation above). These
two ingredients are necessary to achieve the idea I've described above
(point 1).
The second suggestion is not as important as the first IMO, however it's
related to the same topic, so I've mentioned it here, too. I don't think
that adjusting that plugin is hard, and I will try to look at that when I
have a bit of time and motivation left.
