Comment (by [EMAIL PROTECTED]):

 I've been seeing the same problem on my Fedora 7 system after updating the
 kernel to 2.6.23.1-10.fc7 and madwifi 0.9.3.3 from livna.org.

 Here are a couple more details, in case they help.

 The first sign of badness in the kernel boot log is:
 {{{
 Oct 31 11:09:03 coralie kernel: ath_pci 0000:0a:03.0: can't get channels
 Oct 31 11:09:03 coralie kernel: ACPI: PCI interrupt for device
 0000:0a:03.0 disabled
 Oct 31 11:09:03 coralie kernel: ath_pci: probe of 0000:0a:03.0 failed with
 error -22
 Oct 31 11:09:03 coralie kernel: ath_hal: module license 'Proprietary'
 taints kernel.
 Oct 31 11:09:03 coralie kernel: ath_hal: 0.9.18.0 (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212,
 RF5111, RF5112, RF2413, RF5413)
 Oct 31 11:09:03 coralie kernel: wlan: 0.8.4.2 (0.9.3.3)
 Oct 31 11:09:03 coralie kernel: ath_pci: 0.9.4.5 (0.9.3.3)
 Oct 31 11:09:03 coralie kernel: kobject_add failed for ath_pci with
 -EEXIST, don't try to register things with the same name in the same
 directory.
 Oct 31 11:09:03 coralie kernel:  [<c04f1393>]
 kobject_shadow_add+0x159/0x18b
 ...
 }}}
 I've posted just enough context so you can see that it leads into the
 original report's snippet.

 For reference, here's what I see with the older kernel 2.6.22.9-91.fc7 and
 madwifi 0.9.3.1
 {{{
 Nov 1 10:38:44 coralie kernel: ath_hal: module license 'Proprietary'
 taints kernel.
 Nov  1 10:38:44 coralie kernel: ath_hal: 0.9.18.0 (AR5210, AR5211, AR5212,
 RF5111, RF5112, RF2413, RF5413)
 Nov 1 10:38:44 coralie kernel: intel_rng: FWH not detected
 Nov 1 10:38:44 coralie kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:1f.3[B] -> GSI
 19 (level, low) -> IRQ 21
 Nov 1 10:38:44 coralie kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:0a:09.2[A] -> GSI
 20 (level, low) -> IRQ 19
 Nov  1 10:38:44 coralie kernel: wlan: 0.8.4.2 (0.9.3.1)
 Nov  1 10:38:44 coralie kernel: ath_pci: 0.9.4.5 (0.9.3.1)
 }}}

 FYI, I'm getting the problem on a AR5005 chipset installed in a cheap Acer
 Celeron laptop.
 {{{
 0a:03.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5005G
 802.11abg NIC (rev 01)
 }}}
 Maybe it's a conflict with this particular Fedora kernel. Anyway, I'm
 happy to keep using the older version, which seems to work fine.

 Thanks for the great work!
 -Daniel
