New description:

 Using latest trunk version (r2951).
When using the command "sudo wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode
 adhoc"
instead of ath0, ath1 is created (ath0 did not exist before the command).

 After doing

  1. "sudo wlanconfig ath1 destroy"
  2. "sudo wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode adhoc"

 I get the same result.

trying to use ath1 results in ath2 being created.

 running Ubuntu gutsy (7.10).
 kernel version 2.6.22-14-generic.

Comment:

Most probably an issue related to udev. Please check
 [wiki:UserDocs/Distro/Debian/TroubleshootingInstallation#udevPersistentNetRules
here] for details. If that doesn't help:

Your ticket says that this issue is caused by a certain revision, which
seems to suggest that earlier revisions don't show the same behaviour. If
it was your intention to say just that please try to elaborate which
revision introduced the issue, then reopen this ticket and provide further
 information. Thanks.
