I use a second Generation MacBook with a AR5418. I installed the current driver (20080323) in a Gentoo Installation. I could not get any connection to any network. I tried it with the wireless-tools and the current wpa_supplicant provided by portage (0.5.7). I can even not connect to unsecured networks. I just seem to get no IP via dhcp (I tried 3 client, dhclient, dhcpcd and udhcp). Therefore, it seems to me that the problem lies in the madwifi driver, not in the surrounding tools. To test whether it s only in the current madwifi-ng, I also tested (20071230). It also failed. If you need more information, don't hesitate to ask.
