>From my experience, the labels don't really mean much -- it's really how you
lead the visitors to the forum/discussions pages. I've seen successful sites
using Forum, Forums, Community, Discuss, etc., even just plain talk bubble
icons with no labels. The way to encourage visitors to join the discussion
is to have some sort of 'Active Topics' or "Hot Topics" somewhere on the
main page and other important pages of the site. Once they see where the
forum is, they know where to go next time.
Btw, majority of first time visitors find the forum threads via Google.
