Right. But, I do know a number of U.S. companies who _would_ develop for MeeGo if given the chance (i.e., I'd say that most forward-thinking companies think globally). Anyway, developing for the N9 is also developing for MeeGo (in some sense), so work done for MeeGo can easily be released for N9/Harmattan.
Also, bringing up the Engadget article, there's a pretty ambiguous "At this time..." segment to that quote. Sure, we can speculate, but nothing's in stone yet.
