Thanks for this.  It worked for me, so I'm no longer one of the
"unfortunate". Hopefully it will work for others too.

I'm looking forward with great anticipation to trying out the N800 in 2/3
days.

It should work. Otherwise contact phone/mail support of the UK shop. At
this point we believe all the online shops are aware of the N800 developer
program and should be able to provide support and answers. They can solve
problems with i.e. credit cards - we don't.
