To achieve this, I think that would be great that we can compile Hildon outside maemo SDK. There already is a bug about this here: [1] This will make more easy new contributions because It's not necessary to install all the maemo SDK. Indeed, I've been able to compile a hildon2 program in a normal linux machine with a patched version of hildon2.
