Symlinks take space on disk, too. I'm not sure if they take a whole block or a part of it but there is likely a limit where a links costs more space than the data itself. Is this where the 2K come from? We also should keep care that we do not run out of inodes (which IMHO should not be a problem if we replace the real file with a link because that does/should not increase the amount of inodes). -- Gruß...
