The use of the Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) algorythm
allowing to find control points to build panorama with several pictures
is restricted by a US patent... this algorythm is the basis of
autopano-sift and autopano-sift-C !
hugin (a pano builder program) brings some patents problems with some of
its tools : this one is an optional tool, and we can use hugin without
it... mostly since 2010.4 version of hugin which ships its own patent
free control point generator which is quite as good as autopano ;)
the other rpm bringing patent problem is libpano13 (required by hugin) :
two versions exist yet for mageia:
- one in core repository with a limited field of view (160°) and giving
this limit to hugin (no patent problem though !)
- one in tainted repository without limitation (but infringing US and
Japan patents) allowing to build 360° panorama
