Because it's designed to be as small as possible, only containing
enough to get a network install going.

That's the whole point. You *can't* get a network install going without a wired NIC.


With all the stuff needed to do what you want, _thats_ what the
dual iso is built for (or livecds for that matter).

I have no experience with the dual ISO, but are you saying that it will allow a network install via wireless, supporting all of the wireless NICs that an iinstalled system supports ?


What would be interesting, is what additional packages/changes
would be needed to at least support those wireless NICs which
are directly supported by the kernel without firmware.
Wouldn't this only need the addition of the following:
libiw, wireless-tools, wpa_supplicant

Or would this imply bigger changes to the code generating the boot.iso?
