I have been using Mandrake/Mandriva/Mageia since 2002. I am a senior citizen with no technical background and strictly a gui user. Mandrake was an excellent alternative to Windows. It was easy to install and use. Most importantly there was a community available that provided excellent support no matter how dumb my question. This community both local and thru mageia is still providing excellent support. Another item of equal importance is that no matter how many mistakes, crashes etc I still have a /home partition with my data intact about 99% of the time. I also back it up. I installed mageia on my wife's computer and she has no problem. The major everyday programs are excellent.

In summary, for a new user the ease of installation is most important including the hardware support. Program stability and community support is next in importance.
