Thanks for that. I had a look at backports but couldn't find anything so I got it from testing using apt-pinning. I hear what you say about mixing sources which could break stuff, but everything seems to be ok. And with the imagemagick from testing the -scene 1 command works.

It's better to use backports because they are specifically built (depending on which repository you choose) for your flavour of Debian.. Sorry if backports is a dead end. Testing might break other things if you are running Sarge.
