Again, the .la files are generated during the make process. The .la
file is not "missing" from the source. Copying them from /usr/local/
lib from a previous version of imagemagick is not the right thing to do.
If the .la file is not getting generated in make, and you get an
error later about it missing, something didn't work right in make.
Look thru the output in the Terminal window to see if there were any
other errors before it stopped with the missing .la error, there may
be errors that didn't cause make to halt
FWIW, I havne't had any problems like this ever in ImageMagick on OS
X, including 6.2.7-6 on OS X 10.4.6, Xcode 2.2.1. I haven't tried
the newest IM yet, or with Xcode 2.3. Taking a breather after my
last big package/installer update.

realtime to accomplish the make, time that is utterly wasted
dealing with compilation errors such as these. BTW, my copies of
these libraries were made from IM 6.1.8.
