Hi all,

Thanks for the advice. I've tried using the png8:filename.png option, but
unfortunately I'm still getting a 3 band output (I assume 24 bit?).

The -type GrayScale output seems like an appealing option but the output
image from this is different from the output from version 5 which I am
trying to duplicate, and I dont want to lose any information. (The output
needs to be consistent with our previously recorded images)

Is there something I am missing? It seems to me that if I am specifying
-depth 8 gray: and also png8: then I should be getting an 8 bit grayscale
output.

Could it be related to the 6 bit to 8 bit situation of the raw image that
I've mentioned previously? (to recap: from what I understand it is
an image which in its raw form is actually 6 bit, padded to 8 bit in the
begining. I didnt write the program that does it, so I dont know exactly
whats done, but whatever it was worked just fine with version 5.)

Thanks!
Christina
