Anthony, I think you misunderstand. The 'dithering' is done by photoshop. IM is acting exactly as I expect. Photoshop is doing something to the image to make it much smaller than the .gif that IM can produce.
I was asking whether IM can so something similar - I'm guessing that PS is increasing redundancy in the image to make LZW compress better. In fact, going after that guess in Google comes up with this patent: http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/7031540-description.html "Transformation to increase the lempel-ziv compressibility of images with minimal visual distortion" ...and I'm guessing that that's what PS is doing, and that IM would have to find a different way of doing it if such a thing were considered useful. -- Illtud Daniel [EMAIL PROTECTED] Uwch Ddadansoddwr Systemau Senior Systems Analyst Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru National Library of Wales Yn siarad drosof fy hun, nid LlGC - Speaking personally, not for NLW _______________________________________________ Magick-users mailing list [email protected] http://studio.imagemagick.org/mailman/listinfo/magick-users
