No it doesn't. It is a fast hack to add a caption.

There are alturnatives, usally involving generating the caption as
a separate image, and appending or overlaying it.
But these have problems in accessing image meta-data, as teh meta-data
is stored in a different image to the one you are working on.
There are ways around that such as
1/ using user defined global 'options' to pass the meta-data

2/ Cloning then warping the original image into the canvas of the
caption image so meta-data will pass along with it.

Neither technique is very nice however, as you can see.
We are hoping to allow better access to image data from ANY
in-memory image, in the future. But for now this is a IM
limitation, with workarounds.
