No it is not dodge and burn, I already have that facility in Gimp. The
facility, whatever it is called, is said to be easier to use than
that.
The user in question has recently installed Adobe CS4 and was talking
about his results in using the latest PS.

For myself I cannot really research PS because I don't use it and
cannot use it because there is no version of it for Unix/Linux. What I
do want to research is whether I can attain similar results eg
reducing the washed out effect of over exposed highlights using IM.

So far the links you provided make very interesting reading. I'm
wondering if there is any possibility using -fx?
