It is useful if you only want to go to a next/prev folder in the list
and then jump to messages. Much more often, when you have more than a
few folders (and I have about 20), you want to go to a folder which is
several steps away from your current one. And in this case, the
program's attempts to be "too smart" by jumping me to messages without
asking becomes an annoyance.

So please don't forget about people using keyboard too :) (I see no real
reason to use mouse with this kind of program at all - it's not a
graphic editor after all, so everything should be easily accessible via
keyboard.)

The extra keypress is a nuisance, especially when it's so easy to avoid
it by slightly changing the behavior of the interface.

This is VERY counter-intuitive and limited. PLEASE consider making the
message panel fully scrollable by arrow keys, pgdn/pgup, home/end, etc,
by making it possible to move focus to it and from it by tab/shift-tab.
This would be much more logical and convenient.

Just treat the messages viewed as pages viewed in a browser - remember
what messages in what folders were displayed in the message display
panel and allow to navigate back and forth in this sequence. For example
I read a message from A in my inbox, then I go to my Sent Mail to see
what I wrote to that person previously, then I go to the Archive folder
to read my past messages, etc. After all this, I want to be able to
reverse all my movements and get back to the message from A in the inbox
without having to search for it, but simply by pressing alt-left a few
times. (And then return to the Archive messages I was viewing by
pressing alt-right a few times.)
