the context:
Redhat 7.2
first evironment:
wxGTK-2.3.2 from rpm
mahogany 0.64 built from cvs tarball shortly before official 0.64 release
after problem, upgraded to second environment:
wxGTK-2.3.3-M built from source
mahogany 0.64 from the rpm
i read several different imap mailboxes with mahogany, all of which reside
on my laptop. email is fetched from various imap and pop servers using
getmail (a python script that does fetchmail like things, but is much
simpler, and which delivers directly into the mail spool.)
this morning, one of my imap mailboxes became effectively unreadable.
whenever i selected it, it would fetch, filter, sort, and right after
showing the number of sorted messages at the bottom of the window, it
would go into a loop of some sort. the various panes in the window would
never display anything; the clock icon would stay up indefinitely. i
could shut mahogany down with kill -HUP. my presumption is that some
problem email message in the imap mailbox is breaking things.
rather than pester the list immediately, i decided to complete my long
defered upgrade to the current release, so i built and installed
wxGTK-2.3.3-M and installed the rpm of the release version of 0.64; i
figured that this might fix it, or might change the symptoms.
subsequent to the upgrade, i still have a problem, but indeed, with
different symptoms. now, it completes, displays, and i can select messages.
operations on the mailbox (deleting, moving things to folders) will
generally trigger a fatal application crash.
obviously, i'd like to read the email in this mail box, and obviously i'd
also like to help track down and kill this bug. how should i attack this? i
can trivially use a regular mail program to save & delete mail received
since yesterday, but that doesn't necessarily help identify the problem
that's causing the crash.
fortunately, the imap mailbox that is having problems isn't the one that i
use to read mahogany-users.
