I am uncertain about how to make this work nicely, but here are a couple options. i. allow marking a msg for "return to here when folder reopens". While this requires prescience, it is still a good solution I think. ii. allow a folder option: open with first new msg, or open with last read msg. Since I use quite a few folders for archiving, I would choose the latter for these. The problem is that I often receive mail that requires me to look at past msgs, so I think I would still need to be able to use i. as well. Thanks for thinking about this, because something along this line would be very helpful.
