Me too, otherwise I'd probably have just used it or joined Mozilla
development instead of working on Mahogany.

The trouble with this is that:

1. S/MIME isn't a simple protocol and I'm not aware of any C/C++ libraries
implementing it (I know one for Java but if there is something I hate
more than Netscape it is Java :-)

2. even worse, I know nothing about S/MIME, i.e. I don't know how is it
used nor do I even have a possibility to test it

3. I, personally, don't need S/MIME so far so I'm not very motivated on
   working on it

I did consider adding S/MIME support some time ago exactly for the reasons
you mentioned (i.e. it would give us a "competitive advantage" compared
with the other Linux MUAs) but I quickly realized that I didn't have
resources for this.

OTOH, someone familiar with S/MIME shouldn't have a hard time adding
support for it to Mahogany as I did my best to accomodate possible
cryptographic extensions/plugins easily when designing the message viewing
code. And I'd definitely do my best to help anybody interested in doing
this. But in the near/medium future I don't see myself embarking on a
project of this size and complexity.

VZ
