 You do, and it is also in the "Message" menu and has Ctrl-Shift-U

 The idea behind the marks is that you may have many (26) of them. This is
really convenient, although I suspect that you need to use vi for awhile to
feel it (( for example, when I'm working on a bug I may put a mark 'b'
(for bug) in one place and a mark 'f' (fix) in the place where I'm fixing
it which can be quite far away and go between them in 2 keypresses. ))

 I think it would be useful for the messages as well but unfortunately
implementing this is not obvious.
