This is the vim error message saying that it didn't manage to save the file -- and so, unsurprizingly, Mahogany doesn't get the contents as it's not in the file at all. Now the interesting question is, of course, why do you get it. The most likely explanation is that you don't have write access to the directory where Mahogany wants to creates the temp files. While in vim, could you please look at the title bar -- what is the directory shown there (also the output of vim pwd command)? Do you have (write) access to it?
