I have a question about the handling
of msgs in the results of a folder
search. Let me call the resulting
window the "search folder" for now.

I think the question is similar to a
question as to whether the msg is
copied to the resulting "search folder"
or whether the folder "points" to the
original msg.

What happens if I delete a msg from the
"search folder"? Should the msg be deleted
from its original folder? I would expect
yes, but that's not what I see. Similar question
for a "move" operation. It seems to move a
msg copy from the "search folder" to the new
folder, leaving the original ms in its
original folder.

Bottom line: I think it would be more intuitive
to be working (for delete and move especially,
but also for changing the flags) with the
original msgs.

Of course I have no clue as to whether
this would be a huge complication, although
I can see it means that the structure of such
"virtual folders" would have to differ in key
ways from the standard mail folders. E.g.,
suppose I have a virtual search folder open
and I delete the original. Right now the copy
is untouched in the virtual folder. I believe
it should "disappear".

I notice that, presumably in response to such
considerations, the new Opera email client stores
all mail in a single folder and all other folders
contain only pointers to the originals. I would
actually hate this, since I like to move folders
into storage from time to time, but at the
same time I can see the problem it addresses.

Cheers,
Alan

PS Minor observation: if I mark all messages in a search
folder for deletion and then press "x" to expunge them, one
is not expunged.
