I have a list of six things that (to me at least) have caused me
to switch away from the Mahogany MUA for day to day work. Being
able to do these would improve my chances of being able to switch
back.
1 - Be able to configure, based on Identity, where the cursor
and signature are placed in forwards and replies. This
seems minor, but in a "Microsoft only" sort of organization
I have actually been "written up" because I did not notice
my reply was at the bottom of a message and the recipient
thought that I didn't answer them. I say "based on
Identity" since Usenet and others get rather vitrolic if you
reply at the top of a message.
2 - Threading, threading, threading... It is incredibly annoying
to be working away in the corporate firewall and have M pop
to the foreground and grab all input until it's done. Same
for being in the process of writing an e-mail and having
input "freeze" while typing.
3 - Some way of making the default preview pane viewer "Plain
Text" and have it deal with stripping out formatting. I know
that the different "view" settings are supposed to handle this,
but for whatever reason, I get a fairly even mix of text/plain,
text/html and text/rich-text e-mails that makes it _really_ time
consuming to either switch back and forth or try and read
everything as source, or have to "open" in an MS compatible
external reader.
4 - Automate the download (via a pop-up query?) of PGP/GPG keys
from Mulberry. Although gpg in both Win32 and *NIX are
configured correctly and can auto-download keys from command
line, mulberry does not seem to call this correctly and
continues to generate "Plugin error" messages.
5 - Some way to modify the folder pane so that I can put my active
server accounts at the top of the list. Due to the high level
of activity where I work, I have several tens of offline list
folders I sort into. Having them default to "top" makes it
overly difficult to consistantly be downscrolling to find out
if I have any non-list messages that need to be dealt with.
6 - Some way to add the standard priority "flags" to the headers
so that in my corporate environment I can effectively
communicate with the PHB's who sort their Inbox's on
"importance" (yes, yes, I know this sort of thing is wrong,
but _you_ try telling the CIO/CEO/CFO that they are in
effect, being dumb and see how long your career lasts).
A long list, but not an unreasonable one from a usability
standpoint I don't think. Please let me know if any of this
makes sense, or is already on the roadmap, or if I'm just
babbling like a fool.
