Oh man... I can see u struggling... I have been there once.!

Best way to do that is to mount your old installation into a live cd
environment and chroot into the mount... then use the command for installing
the bootloader.

In fedora use the first CD or the DVD to get into fix mode and it will mount
the partition for you ... (i'm not fully sure abt this). then go to shell
and chroot. then use grub or lili or what ever to restore the boot loader. I
dont have a live linux installation at hand to give you the exact commands
and things... sorry.!
