Guys ... do you really use 64bit on your desktop? Any reason why you do that?
I've got a 64bit box myself and couldn't get my head around the idea of using a 64bit OS for my desktop. I would use them only on a server, that too only if the applications that I run on them really need 64bit facilities like huge memory and file-size requirements. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:mailinglist-bounces at ilug-cochin.org] On Behalf Of Sunjith P S Sent: 01 July 2007 08:05 To: Jos Collins, ,TLS,Chennai Cc: This List discusses GNU/Linux & GNU,GPL Software Subject: Re: [Mailinglist] Fedora 7 x86_64 Hi Jos, I'm Using AMD Athlon XP 2000+. Support seems to be okay since all hardware is working fine. I have been using 64-bit Fedora linux on this machine since 2004 September (FC2 X86_64) and haven't had any hardware issues. I haven't done much of benchmarking on this, but however there doesn't seem to be much of a big performance advantage over the 32 bit Fedora. I'm running 64-bit system only to learn it better. If you don't like to experiment, I'd suggest installing a 32-bit version only. Mainly because a few things are still missing on 64-bit version, such as flash plugin. Also certain wifi cards using ndiswrapper will not work in the 64-bit version. That's all what I have encountered so far. Back in 2004 there seemed to be some issues with wine running 32-bit windows apps, but they are working fine now.
