I remember that some of the processors of AMD are 32-bit. I don't know
which version of Debian is supposed to install in such machines.
However you can find your processor details in /proc/cpuinfo file.

This depends on what you are going to do. If you are planning to do a
fresh installation or a previous release to Lenny upgrade (for example
Etch to Lenny) then you have to download the first 5 DVDs. If you are
planning to do an upgrade with in Lenny (for example Lenny R1 to Lenny
R4) then you need only the Update DVD. Either way, you have to download
either first 5 DVDs or the Update DVD; not both.

If you have a 24hrs Internet connection and you don't want to share
the DVDs with others then you don't have to download the DVDs at all.
You can do a dist-upgrade over the Internet.
