Many students and common people are not aware that a GNU/Linux operating
system exists which is more comfortable and more user friendly than any
other proprietary operating systems. Those already heard (but never used
it) about GNU/Linux operating system, think that it is something like a
rocket science and it is hard to use, and so they keep away from it.

>>I tried encouraging them to install Linux,

As a matter of fact, challenges are the real thrill when you use this
operating system. You may face road blocks, only then you seek and find a
short cut which is more beautiful and more creative than the normal
highway. Without a roadblock you will never find a beautiful and easier
shortcut.

Nice to hear that.
After they use and experience what Ubuntu is, try to teach them the
philosophy behind "Free Software". There is a big philosophy behind it
(which you may already know). Because of that philosophy, Mr. Jos Collin
advised to say "GNU/Linux" and not mere "Linux". "Linux" is the kernel
inside the "GNU" (Gnu is Not Unix) Operating system. So it should be
addressed officially as "GNU/Linux". (And when you talk casually, you may
call it anything - GNU or Linux or Ubuntu or Debian etc. that is my
personal vision regarding this)

That's a nice idea. For a personal support you can call any of the phone
numbers already given to you in the previous posts. Here I add my mobile
number: 7736780769

Your observation is correct. Let us unite to lead an awareness about Free
Software among students.
ILUG Cochin is driven by the philosophy behind Free Software. There are
lots of high tech persons / philosophically motivated persons / highly
emotional FS evangelists inside the group. ILUG Cochin always stands for
100% free software and it advices to keep away from non-free software.
