It is a truth whether you are willing to accept or not.

May be thats why some distro's don't chase every change/feature as
frantically as others.

It is a Myth.
Nothing comes anywhere near NetBSD in terms of portability.

Perfomance is a subjective matter.
You enable some security/reliability feature in Linux and perfomance
drops. You disable the same in BSDs perfomance increases with the
added benefit that the system is more reliable.

Those who work on both systems know that while the perfomance tests
shows big numbers Linux becomes less responsive to users once load
increases and crashes freequently compared to BSDs.

I use a couple of desktops. In linux I prefer Slackware or Arch. I
have become fed up with most other due to the reliability factor

Perhaps you don't use enough software to hit enough bugs after
upgrades. If you look the arch forums you can see the mess some
'pacman -Syu' create

Glad to know you are an Arch fan :-)
I came to know about it from the Linux4u magazine.
I love its's simple BSD style design.

Also ABS is a BSD ports like system

Kind Regards
