It is a truth whether you are willing to accept or not. >GhostBSD comes with gnome and the quality of gnome is > decreasing at a very alarming rate. > May be thats why some distro's don't chase every change/feature as frantically as others. > Personally I think no kernels come > anywhere near linux in performance and portability. > It is a Myth. Nothing comes anywhere near NetBSD in terms of portability. http://www.netbsd.org/ports/history.html Perfomance is a subjective matter. You enable some security/reliability feature in Linux and perfomance drops. You disable the same in BSDs perfomance increases with the added benefit that the system is more reliable. Those who work on both systems know that while the perfomance tests shows big numbers Linux becomes less responsive to users once load increases and crashes freequently compared to BSDs. > If yowu can spare some time, >there are always brilliant distros like > arch with which you can build amazing machines. > I use a couple of desktops. If you look the arch forums you can see the mess some 'pacman -Syu' create Glad to know you are an Arch fan :-) I came to know about it from the Linux4u magazine. I love its's simple BSD style design. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/FAQ#Q.29_What_exactly_is_this_.27BSD-style.27_init_framework_I_keep_hearing_about.3F Also ABS is a BSD ports like system https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_Build_System#What_is_a_ports-like_system.3F Kind Regards --Siju _______________________________________________ Indian Libre User Group Cochin Mailing List http://www.ilug-cochin.org/mailing-list/ http://mail.ilug-cochin.org/mailman/listinfo/mailinglist_ilug-cochin.org #[email protected]
