I was a long term gnome*2* user. Gnome 3 simplified and screwed up things big time. Ubuntu did something very similar with unity. Its pretty evident from the fact that mint with a usable fork of gnome3 is the most popular distro now. Please have a look at this discussion [1] also [2]. See how frustrated people are about gnome3. I personally hate gnome3 with a passion and I am in love with xfce now. UI teams are basically trying to run the same thing on tablets and desktops/laptops at the same time. Unity, gnome3 and windows 8 is doing the same thing. I hope they will realize that they are wrong when alternate desktops like xfce, mate and cinnamon overtake them in popularity which is already happening. There was no reason to get rid of the bottom bar with app buttons. It might work well for idiots with just facebook open in 10 tabs, but not for developers. It kills productivity and is a disaster. 1. http://linux.slashdot.org/story/11/08/04/0115232/linus-torvalds-ditches-gnome-3-for-xfce 2. http://digitizor.com/2011/08/04/linus-torvalds-ditches-gnome-for-xfce/ -- Jaseem Abid http://jaseemabid.github.com _______________________________________________ Indian Libre User Group Cochin Mailing List http://www.ilug-cochin.org/mailing-list/ http://mail.ilug-cochin.org/mailman/listinfo/mailinglist_ilug-cochin.org #[email protected]
