This list employs content filtering and among the options is Collapse alternatives which is set to Yes. That means when you compose your "rich text" message in your MUA, and the MUA creates a message with a text/html part for the rich text and a text/plain alternative part, the list will discard the text/html part and keep only the text/plain part which doesn't have all the rich text formatting.
