Update 2: The workaround for this issue is to take
“[Gmail]/Drafts” offline. This has the effect that the message is
not uploaded to Gmail until *after* it has been sent. Otherwise, it
apparently triggers a bug in the SMTP server of Google Apps. Sigh…
Final update: Several users (and myself) no longer see this issue. I
assume Google fixed it, but as far as Google is concerned the problem
apparently never existed: http://www.google.com/appsstatus
(The problem with Gmail on May 8th is a different issue.)
