You won’t need a time machine, just a firewire cable and the old machine started in Target mode.
After that, all your settings/folders in MailMate will be identical on both machines and -- as MM uses IMAP -- you can work with both machines. Just new mailboxes or changes to smart mailboxes will stay local.
