Benny will correct me if I am wrong. As far as I understand it, the
mailbox types are fixed and immutable but the visible names of the
mailboxes in the list, both universal and smart mailboxes, are up to
you. You can name and rename any of them as you wish. MM will handle
them according to their type not name. IMAP servers, shown as sources in
MM, also call them differently. I have a few that call that mailbox
Trash. I have a few that call that mailbox Deleted Messages. I have a
few that actually have both of those mailboxes but only one of them is
of type Deleted Messages and is actively used. One server calls that
mailbox Deleted Items.
In terms of timed deletion, there was a thread just a few days ago which
discussed issues of actions based on timing. My workout is to have a
smart folder that shows messages in trash which are older than set
threshold, so I can just open that mailbox, select all, and delete. Not
automatic but easy enough.

In my version of MailMate, “Trash” is not an option. There are 5
mailbox types, one of which is “Deleted Messages.”
Similarly, I have a mailbox called “Deleted Messages” right
below Junk. I do not have a mailbox called “Trash”.
I’m using an Exchange Server. Am I supposed to change everything
to “Trash?”
While on the subject of Trash, how do I configure Deleted Messages to
automatically flush messages after, say, 10 days? Right now I have to
do a manual select+flush when I remember. I have experimented with my
folder, but not found a solution.
Thanks.
