Thanks: I hadn't thought of that (because I'm not used to using the Sent Messages folder, which before MailMate was more a nuisance than a help).
For what it's worth, I have a rule on my Sent folder to move all messages to the Inbox. This keeps active messages together in the same IMAP folder and makes filing and archiving easier. I instituted this setup before I figured out how to best use MailMate's smart folders, and then mostly forgot about it.
