Sorry, that's a bit hard to decipher, so I might not understand it correctly.
MailMate should not prefer your address if your wife haven't sent anything to you. At least not by default. Maybe check that the auto-completion source specified in the Composer preferences pane is based on recipient headers of the Sent Messages mailbox (and not, e.g., “All Messages”).
