It has been known that RBL's return a response to force the email admin to look and make appropriate changes in their configuration.

But I have no way to tell in this case of course and those with inside knowledge of their configuration will have to do the proper testing and check their configuration.

Thanks. That confirms my idea. I contacted one of the ISPs who had a postfix cluster and claimed that no other system was in front (but he was not the email guru there). I didn’t get the information on what DNS setup they have (e.g. using Google DNS or other third party, or if they have their own).

I am not sure why Barracuda would block an overflow of requests with a positive response though. Would that be to fill the cache with a TTL? Does make sense, a little.

FYI, this is not a Barracuda spam filter error, but a third party mail server/filter using the barracudacentral.org rbl's in their spam filtering. So all bets are off as to where the issue is.

The 'user' of the Barracuda RBL's is susposed to register their DNS server IP addresses with Barracuda. It would not surprise me if Barracuda blocked what they consider high traffic levels from an un-registered DNS server.

    Hi,

Does Barracuda have issues? I get a lot of spurious bounces, since
the 13^th , that state (and this is just one example):

    /… Client host [46.31.52.7] blocked using b.barracudacentral.org/

Needless to say: My IPs are not listed as having a ‘poor’
reputation (and the exact same mailservers accept mails from the
same IP only minutes before and after to the exact same domain). I
thought it was just some DNS issues at a location we send to, but
it persists at many networks. It also cannot easily be explained
by a ‘tight’ spamfilter setting on a domain. So there seem to be
some technical issues. The question is: Where is the issue
(Barracuda, its software, DNS, …)? Do others have the same?

    Comments are appreciated.
