Certainly. I use alpine, and a Windows text MUA from the late Cretaceous
(Agent), and it doesn't retrieve diddly unless I specifically instruct it to
do so. And it's not that good at rendering the HTML, but then again that's
not something I prize.
I'm not at all sure what your point is.
