Thank you Laura. Heiko took your advice and we have been working through this
with him.
For information, we offer a Datafeed Query Service — which is similar to the
service offered by Spamhaus’ free public mirrors but it uses a unique key to
allow access. The service actually is better than that offered by the public
mirrors as it is updated in real time and allows access to additional lists,
for example the Zero Reputation Domain (ZRD) list
<https://www.spamhaustech.com/news/recently-registered-domains-how-to-avoid-the-risks/
<https://www.spamhaustech.com/news/recently-registered-domains-how-to-avoid-the-risks/>>.
The Datafeed Query Service (DQS) is a drop in replacement for the service
offered by the public mirrors. For example, in a SpamAssassin, Postfix,
<whatever> configuration, where you have:
zen.spamhaus.org <http://zen.spamhaus.org/>
replace with:
<key>.zen.dq.spamhaus.net <http://zen.dq.spamhaus.net/>
Where <key> is your unique DQS key. That’s it.
Installation instructions for an optimised SpamAssassin setup using DQS can be
found at
<https://docs.spamhaustech.com/40-real-world-usage/SpamAssassin/020-SpamAssassin.html#install-instructions
<https://docs.spamhaustech.com/40-real-world-usage/SpamAssassin/020-SpamAssassin.html#install-instructions>>.
To get a free DQS key, please register at <https://www.spamhaustech.com/dqs/
<https://www.spamhaustech.com/dqs/>>. The free service is subject to licence
restrictions, the same ones as the free public mirrors. And it’s the blatant
disregard for those licence conditions which means we end up ACLing IP ranges
causing issues for innocent bystanders. Unfortunately, a few (ab)users use
cloud resource to query the free public service to the tune of millions and
tens of millions of queries every day.
