That piqued my interest - it has never been a "simple reflector", it's been using Mailman 2.x from the very beginning. What happened throughout 2017 and 2018 was a notable increase in subscriber domains switching to more restrictive SPF and DMARC policies, so the mailman option 'from_is_list' (as it was then) became increasingly used, rewriting the RFC5321.From: header and adding a Reply-To: of the original sender. I don't recall changing that setting around that time, but the first munged email I can find is way back in October 2016, so it was obviously set to Munge/Rewrite at the time.
