Yeah, I'm not seeing Google be "hostile" to mailing lists if the mail fully authenticates properly. I've felt mailing lists and authentication and Gmail were a solved problem, at least from my perspective, for a number of years now. What bit me recently was a bug, not some pushback against my business model.
