You'll probably miss important communications from power companies, telecom bills, even government. You'll definitely need to block late down the chain so you can whitelist those messages. Which means you'll have to deal with an extra type of "spam". Unless you block only the hotmail side, which feels half-baked.

Strangers don't care about you. Best you can do is talk to your circle of friends and partners and inform them of what's going on. Give them a free account or something. Send them to a good service and show them tutorials if they are interested.

Sad state of affairs when commons are being appropriated by corps.
