It doesn't help if they work for Microsoft if they don't know what they're talking about, can't confirm anything, and can't actually help.
Had he said, "I don't work in this department, but I believe XYZ," that is one thing. Responding as though they're authoritative when they're not and making statements of fact that don't match reality aren't helpful for anyone. That said I'm sure he has thick skin and won't disappear just because I pointed out they were wasting everyone's time with their non-help. He said you would get 4XX codes before the 550s for 3150. I have verified this is not the case for the users affected by 3150 within our network. So the information he provided was wrong. I don't see how that's helpful to any of us.
