I just tried some experiments. It doesn't happen all the time - only certain characters. When you click in the textarea, some keypresses result in the textarea getting focus and the character appearing. Others don't: Space - scrolls the page down Backspace: returns to the overview a: gives focus but doesn't add an 'a' to the reply z: gives focus and does add a 'z' to the reply I tried a again: a: gives focus and does add an 'a' to the reply proving that it's a bit random... d: does nothing e: archives the message and returns to the overview etc. etc. This is with a Google Apps domain. I've just tried it with a regular GMail account and it seemed to work OK. My environment: latest bleeding edge MailPlane, OS X 10.5.5, late-2008 MacBook Pro.
