Hi! Try the "Quick Links" Google Lab feature:

   - Open Google Labs settings and enable "Quick Links"
   - Search for your unread messages
   - Create a Quick Link
   - Any time you like to filter by unread message, either:
      - Click the link the sidebar
      - Do ⌘⌥G to to use the navigation window (it'll show your quick links)
      - Or use the Goto Label Google Lab feature (g + l)

Hope this helps.
